The Starks and Tullys attend the Red Wedding and Westeros is forever changed. Daenerys continues her winning streak in Slaver’s Bay by claiming the city of Yunkai with the help of her new ally. In the North Bran learns how to control his magic, much to Jon Snow’s benefit.

Before making their way to the Twins Robb takes a moment to explain his plan of attacking Casterly Rock to Cat. She asks why he has come to her with this, he responds that he once ignored her council regarding Theon Greyjoy and lost Winterfell as a result and he will not repeat the mistake. Cat seems touched by the gesture, she agrees the plan is a bold one but has faith in her son.

At the Twins Robb and his party are given bread and salt, the traditional sign of hospitality while Lord Walder Frey proves as blunt as he was with Cat 2 seasons ago. Robb offers his apology for forsaking his vow to wed one of his daughters, but Lord Frey insist he apologize to them. After making a few lewd comments towards Talisa he accepts the apology and offers Robb’s men his hospitality.
Outside Yunkai, Daenerys plans her attack on the city. Daario suggests a plan using a lightly defended back gate, with his betrayal of Yunkai not yet know they will let him in and they can open the main gate. Though Jorah Mormont is skeptical, Grey Worm says he trusts Daario. As the captains depart, Ser Barristan offers to accompany them, but Jorah refuses. Noting that if Daario should prove false he is all that is left to protect Daenerys.
Sam and Gilly continue their journey to the wall. He explains that while they are still far from Castle Black they are near the Nightfort, the first castle built on the Wall. There is a secret door which leads through the wall right into the castle. Gilly is astonished that he could know so much from staring at marks on a paper remarking that he is “like a wizard,” deeply pleasing Sam who once wished to be a wizard as a child. They stop as Gilly gazes in awe at her first look at the Wall.
Sandor and Arya comes across a pig farmer whose wagon had broken on the road. As Sandor helps him repair the wheel the man tells him he is bringing pork to the wedding feast. When finished Sandor knocks the man out and moves to kill him, but Arya protests. He tells her that her kindness will get her killed, she responds by knocking the man out again as he starts to come to.
Sandor “The Hound” Clegane earns 1 Wound point for knocking out the pig farmer.

The Stark boys and their party make their way through “the gift.” Brandon explains to Osha that the lands had been given to the Night’s Watch to support them with food and horses. Meera wonders why no one lives here as it’s good land free of war. Bran says that it is mostly abandoned as a result of Wildling raids. A storm rolls in and the group decides to take shelter in a nearby windmill.
Orell uses his eagle to scout a nearby home and tells Tormund there is only an old man and horses. They plan to attack and steal his horses and gold. Jon argues they should only they take the horses and leave the man behind as the Night’s Watch was more likely to come looking for murderers than horse thieves. Tormund wants the Night’s Watch to come though, as they are easier to attack outside of their castle. However in the attack charge Jon hits his sword against a rock alerting the man and distracts Ygritte when she tries to shoot the fleeing man with an arrow.
Orell Skinchanger earns 1 Magic points for warging
Sandor mocks Arya for continuing to stare at the Twins as if it were about to move. He calls her out for being scared she’s not going to make it to her family. He tells her the fear is written all over her face, but she coldly responds that she saw fear in his face back during his fight with Beric. She reveals she knows his fear of fire and the cause, the burn scar on his face was a token from his hated brother Gregor. She promises Sandor one day she will put a sword in his eye.
In the mill the group discusses how they will cross the Wall when Meera spots a rider, the old man fleeing the wildlings who have caught up with him. The thunder crashes and Hodor begins yelling frightened by the noise. He grows louder and Jojen pushes Bran to stop him before the wildlings hear him. Bran wargs into Hodor silencing him.

Tormund and his group surround the man and he surrenders. Tormund moves to kill him, but Orell says Jon should do it to prove his loyalty. Inside the mill Jojen tells Bran to Warg into Summer, but Bran says he has only ever done it while sleeping. Jojen explains that he just did with Hodor and that Summer will be easier. Outside Jon draws his sword and raises it, but when he hesitates Ygritte kills the man with an arrow. Orell and Tormund reach for their swords and Ygritte moves to protect Jon, but he pushes her out of the way. Jon attacks Orell while Tormund restrains Ygritte. Jojen continues to urge Bran and he is able to warg.
Bran Stark earns 1 Magic point for warging into Summer.
The direwolves, Summer and Shaggy Dog, burst into the fray killing wildlings while Jon fights Orell. Before killing him, Jon tells the skinchanger the he had been right about Jon’s loyalties the entire time. As he dies Orell is able to warg into his eagle and attack Jon. He knocks it away and claims the old man’s horse, escaping.
Jon Snow earns 3 Morghulis points for killing Orell, -1 Wound point for being attacked by the eagle, and 1 Survival point for escaping the Wildlings.
Orell Skinchanger receives -5 Death points for being killed, 1 Magic point for warging into his eagle and 1 Wound point for attacking Jon as his eagle.
Ygritte earns 1 Morghulis point for killing the old man and -3 Betrayal points for Jon’s abandonment.

In Yunkai Daario proves he is true to his word. His ruse with the guards work and they are able to enter the city. He calls for Jorah and Grey Worm and the three are able to make quick work of the guardsmen. Daario even saves Jorah proving his loyalty, however it doesn’t take long for a second wave of guards to come.

At the Twins, the wedding ceremony begins. A nervous Edmure is surprised when he is presented with the lovely Roslin, assuming Lord Frey would pick one of his less desirable daughters. The wedding ceremony takes place and the two are wed.

To the north Jojen tries to explain to Brandon that while skin-changing is not uncommon Beyond the Wall, the ability to warg into a person was unheard of. Bran tells Rickon he saw Jon escape. Osha says that means he’ll be heading to Castle Black and they should too. But Bran notes that it may already be under attack. He decides that Osha should take Rickon to House Umber known to be loyal bannerman. Rickon tries to protest, but Bran tells him it is not safe where he is going, to find the Three-Eyed Raven beyond the wall. The brothers share a tearful goodbye and Osha promises to protect Rickon and tells Meera to do the same for Bran.
Daenerys grows impatient as she waits for news with Barristan. Suddenly Jorah enters the tent telling her that she had been right. The slave soldiers had thrown down their spears and surrendered. She asks what of Daario and he appears brandishing the yunkish banner declaring the city is hers.
Daenerys Targaryen earns 3 Victory points for defeating the Yunkish slavers.
Razdal mo Erazearns -3 Betrayal points for the deceit of the Second Sons and -3 Defeat points for the surrender of his army.
Edmure’s wedding feast looks to be a joyous celebration. Cat notes how very pleased her brother is with his new bride despite all his concern. Her uncle congratulates Roose Bolton on his new marriage to one of Walder’s daughters before excusing himself to find a privy. Lord Walder then stands and announces it is time for the bedding ceremony to raucous agreement. Men and women of House Frey laugh as they bring the newly weds to bed shedding their clothes along the way.
Suddenly the doors close and the tone shifts dramatically as the musicians begin playing the Rains of Castamere and outside Robb’s wolf Grey Wind begins to whine. At the castle gate Sandor is denied entry being told the feast is over, but Arya will not be thwarted and makes a run for it. In the hall Lord Walder calls for Robb’s attention. Cat becomes increasingly unnerved and then notices that Roose Bolton is wearing mail. She slaps him and calls to her son, but it is too late. Lothar Frey approaches Talisa stabbing her repeatedly in the womb. The musicians then drop their instruments producing crossbows raining arrows on Robb and his men. Walder Frey sits at the dais reveling in the carnage.

Outside Arya sees a group of Northmen laughing, comforted by the mention of Winterfell and drinking, but is horrified when Frey men approach and slaughter them. She hears Grey Wind locked in a pen and watches as they surround it and fetter him with arrows. Arya runs again into the Hound who tells her they are too late and knocks her out.

Back in the castle Robb crawls to Talisa. Walder halts the carnage to mock his grieving King. Cat grabs a dagger and holds it to Walder’s young wife. She asks him to let her and Robb leave or she will open his wife’s throat. She swears that they will forget this and seek no vengeance, but Walder tells her she swore oaths before that were broken. Robb lays his dead wife’s head down and rises. Roose Bolton appears stabbing him in the heart repeating Jaime’s message “The Lannisters send their regards.” Cat lets out a howl and cuts the girl’s throat. As she stands in mute horror Black Walder appears and slits her throat.

While light on action season 3 episode 7, The Bear and the Maiden Fair, seems to be setting the stage for some big shakeups. Jaime continues his steady climb out of his negative pit while Theon slips further into his own. The mysterious Boy maintains his steady pace up the leaderboard at Theon’s expense.

Now on the southern side of the wall Ygritte takes a moment to mock the customs of Jon’s people such as roads and the concept that troops need drum beat to walk. Jon tries to explain it keeps them organized and at the same pace, but she still finds it foolish. Later he confronts Orell for almost cutting them loose on The Wall. He does not trouble to deny it saying people love when it suits them and kill when it suits them. He warns Jon that Ygritte understands that and that’s why Jon will not be able to hold on to her.
In the Riverlands Robb and his men make their way slowly to The Twins, the seat of House Frey, for Edmure’s wedding. Delayed by the rain, Cat is concerned that the prickly Walder Frey will take this as further insult. She pointedly reminds Robb that Lord Frey may be getting a wedding, but not the one he wanted. Later Robb and Talisa spend a few precious moments alone in their tent. While writing to her mother Talisa tells Robb she is pregnant to his delight.
To the North Tormund regales Jon with his sex tips. While he is occupied Orell steals a moment with Ygritte. He admits he is jealous of her relationship with Jon. Orell tells her she belongs with one of her own promising he would be good to her. When she rebuffs him he warns that Jon is still loyal to the Night’s Watch.
In King’s Landing Margaery takes a moment to comfort Sansa who is still distressed to be marrying a Lannister rather than her crush Ser Loras. Margaery notes that Tyrion is not the worst of the Lannisters and that his known proclivity for prostitutes may serve her well on their wedding night. Sansa is shocked, but Margaery explains that his experience might make for a more enjoyable wedding night. Sansa asks if she learned so much about sex from her mother, Margaery smiles coyly and says yes, suggesting she may not be a virgin.
Meanwhile Tyrion is not thrilled by the prospect of the marriage either to Bronn’s surprise. He believes Sansa is too young and knows Shae will not be happy. Bronn points out that Shae is a whore and Sansa is a beauty who offers him a chance to rule the entire North. Tyrion sees it as a poisoned prize surrounded by houses that will no doubt loathe him with 2 women by his side that also despise him.
Joffrey calls his grandfather into the Throne Room and demands an update of the small council meetings. Tywin offers that the King is free to attend the meetings, but Joffrey claims he is too busy. Tywin strides up the Throne staring down at the boy King and makes it clear just who holds the power. Unnerved Joffrey then asks a pointed question on the news of a Targaryen with 3 dragons. Tywin is surprised Joffrey has heard and confirms the rumors are true, but is unconcerned as Daenerys is on the other side of the world and her dragons newborn. Joffrey is unconvinced and demands to be counseled on such things. “From now on, I will see to it that you are appropriately consulted on important matters whenever necessary.”
Daenerys surveys the gates of Yunkai, a city known for training bed slaves. Barristan believes they could take the city, but Jorah warns they will not meet her in the field, but instead chip away at her army from behind their walls. He advises the Daenerys pass the city by rather than suffer needless casualties. Daenerys can’t bring herself to abandon the plight of the city’s many slaves. She takes a meeting with Razdal mo Eraz, a slaver and “Wise Master” of Yunkai. He offers gold and ships if she leave the city in peace, but when it becomes clear that she has no intention of taking the deal he digresses into threats promising he has powerful allies. After the dragons prevent him from reclaiming the gold he brought with him, Razdal storms out of the pavilion and Daenerys turns to Jorah asking him to discover who these allies might be.
Back in King’s Landing Tyrion offers Shae jewelry as way of apology, but she is uninterested. She asks that they flee across the Narrow Sea beyond his father’s grasp, but Tyrion declines noting he is a Lannister and has an obligation to his House. He claims things do not have to change promising to provide a house, guards to protect her, and any children they have would be taken care of. Shae declares she would never want to have children that could not see their father and would be killed if their Grandfather ever learned they existed. She bluntly reminds him that she is not his Lady, she is his whore.
Meanwhile on Blackwater Bay Melisandre makes her way back to Dragonstone with Gendry. She informs him of his parentage, being the bastard son of the late Robert Baratheon. She claims a great destiny awaits him because he has King’s blood. In the Riverlands Arya still broods on the Brotherhood’s decision to surrender Gendry. She tells Beric that the Lord of Light is not her god, when he question who is, she responds “Death.” The Brotherhood prepares to attack a Lannister raiding party. Arya begins to question if they will ever take her home, they lied to Gendry and could be lying to her just as easily. She sees an opportunity and makes a run for it. Unfortunately she runs right into Sandor “The Hound” Clegane.
Arya Stark earns 1 Survival for escaping the Brotherhood only to receive -1 Capture points for beings taken prisoner by The Hound.

Jaime speaks one last time to Brienne at Harrenhal. He tells Brienne that Bolton is leaving to attend Edmure Tully’s wedding and she will be left with Locke. He says he owes her a debt for both keeping him alive on their journey and for helping him maintaining his will to survive after his injury. Brienne tells him he can repay it by keeping his pledge to bring Cat her daughters. He takes his leave with Qyburn helping ready his horse. Bolton confides that Qyburn hopes Tywin might convince the Maesters to restore his chain. Jaime says his farewells telling Bolton to tell Robb Stark, “The Lannisters send their regards.”
Theon is surprised by the appearance of two serving girls who release him from his bonds. He wants to flee, but the girls dissuade him with seduction. Of course they are soon interrupted by the Boy revealing it had been a rouse. Theon begs for mercy as the Boy has him held down and brandishes a knife, the Boy merely replies this is mercy as he is not killing him.
Theon Greyjoy receives -3 Betrayal points for the women’s deception and -1 Wound points for his continued torture.
The Boy earns 3 Alliance points for the loyalty of Myranda and Tansy as well as 1 Wound point for his torture of Theon.

In the North Jon is amused when Ygritte mistakes a windmill for a castle having never seen a building so grand. But the conversation soon devolves to the impending battle. Jon warns the wildlings have no chance as the seven kingdoms are better disciplined with better weapons and greater numbers. Ygritte retorts that he will die too then because he is one of them now.
Elsewhere Osha becomes disturbed by the things Bran and Jojen are discussing believing the boy is filling Bran’s head with nonsense. She is further horrified when Jojen reveals his intentions to take Bran Beyond the Wall to the three eyed raven. She refuses to go back telling them it is no place for the living. She explains the reason she came south, her lover had been turned into a wight and she had been forced to burn their hut to save herself from his attack. She will take them to The Wall, but no further.
Jaime begins the journey back to King’s Landing. He questions Qyburn as to why the Maesters removed his chain and Qyburn admits he conducted some unorthodox experiments. Jaime deduces he experimented on living men, but Qyburn argues that what he learned has helped him save many lives. Jaime asks if Qyburn was able to send a raven to Brienne’s father. Qyburn replies that he did, but Locke refused the ransom believing the Lord of Tarth to be far richer than the offer suggests. Jaime realizes that his lie has put Brienne in danger and forces Bolton’s men to return to Harrenhal.
When Jaime arrives he find Brienne fighting a bear to the amusement of Lock and his men. Jaime is horrified to see they’ve only given her a blunted tourney sword to defend herself. He offers to pay Brienne’s ransom himself, but Locke only laughs saying Jaime has not learned his lesson that money can’t always help you. Not knowing what else to do Jaime vaults into the pit with Brienne. The two are able to escape with some help from Jaime’s escort and Jaime declares he is taking Brienne with him much to Locke’s disapproval.
