Episode 37: Mockingbird

Littlefinger maintains his grip on first place on season 4 episode 7, Mockingbird, however Arya and Daenerys are not far behind. Tyrion finally has some luck after a string of bad news. The Mountain make his first appearance on the leaderboard in quite some time and it looks at though we will be seeing more of him.

Summary
In Tyrion’s cell Jaime chastises him for rebuking their father’s offer of mercy. Tyrion tries to be confident, noting he’s already survived one trial by combat and hopes Bronn may fight for him again. Then Cersei’s challenger is revealed, none other than the “Mountain Who Rides” Gregor Clegane, who is preparing by butchering terrified prisoners in the castle yard.
Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane earns 1 Morghulis point for the slaughter of unnamed prisoners and 3 Alliance points for agreeing to fight for Cersei.
Cersei Lannister earns 3 Alliance points for Gregor agreeing to be her champion.

Sandor and Arya continue their travels and come across a dying man. Sandor kills the man out of mercy and takes a moment to point out to Arya where the heart is. Suddenly he is attacked by men hoping to collect the bounty on the Hound. One bites him and Sandor unceremoniously snaps his neck. Arya recognizes him and his companion as the captives that were traveling in the wagon with Yoren. Sandor asks if he is on her list, but Arya says she hadn’t known his name. He says “Rorge.” Arya thanks him then stabs him through the heart with Needle.
Sandor “The Hound” Clegane earns 1 Morghulis point for killing the dying man, 3 Morghulis points for killing Biter, and -1 Wound point for the bite he receives.
Arya Stark earns 3 Morghulis points for killing Rorge.

Jon and his men return to the Wall following the battle at Craster’s Keep. Ser Alliser is not pleased to see Ghost and demands he be locked away. He explain that Mance and his army are close and they should barricade the tunnel. Alliser refuses as they would not be able to range north of the Wall and cows Othell Yarwyck, head of the builders, into agreeing with him.

Bronn arrives in Tyrion’s cells sporting much finer clothes. Thanks to Cersei he is now engaged to Lollys of House Stokeworth. Though a younger sister, Bronn is confident he can arrange an inheritance in his favor. He refuses to be Tyrion’s champion both for lack of reward and uncertainty that he could best The Mountain. Tyrion understands, but is still hurt by the betrayal.
Bronn earns 3 Alliance points for his arrangement with Cersei.

In Meereen Daario continues his flirtations toward Daenerys. Sshe surprises him by taking him up on his offer and demanding he remove his clothes. He is taken aback, but complies.

On Dragonstone Selyse visits Melisandre and finds her bathing. Selyse can’t seem to help staring at her knowing she has slept with Stannis. They discuss the arrangements for their departure of Dragonstone. Stannis has commanded they bring Shireen, but Selyse does not agree seeing her daughter as sinful. Melisandre insists Shireen must accompany them because the Lord of Light has need of her.

Back in Meereen Daario is quick to gloat to Jorah as he leaves Daenerys’ chambers. He questions if it is wise to trust Daario as he killed his last commanders. She responds that she does not have faith in Daario and is sending him to retake Yunkai and kill the slavers. Jorah asks that she reconsider offering that if Ned Stark had executed him for the same crime he would not be able to serve her. She decides she will send Hizdahr Zo Loraq with Daario to act as an ambassador and explain the new world order.
Hizdahr Zo Loraq earns 3 Honors points for being appointed ambassador.

In the Riverlands Arya tries to help Sandor tend to his wound, but he refuses to let her treat it with fire. He admits that the story she had heard was correct, that his own brother had burned his face for the crime of playing with one of his toys. And what’s worse his father helped cover it up. Arya offers to at least wash the wound out and sew it.

Meanwhile Brienne and Pod continue their search for the Stark girls and decide to treat themselves to a meal and a bed. They find themselves at the same inn the Hot Pie now cooks in. Brienne asks about Sansa, but he claims not to know any Starks. Pod warns her that she may not want to speak so openly of their quest as the Lannisters are also looking for Sansa. Hot Pie then approaches them and explains he’s never met Sansa, but knew Arya Stark and last saw her with the Brotherhood and the Hound. Brienne is shocked as everyone has assumed the girl is dead. He gives Brienne a Direwolf pastry to pass along to her. Pod offers that they may be heading towards the Eyrie as her Aunt Lysa is the girls last living relative with money and she despises the Lannisters.
Brienne of Tarth earns 3 Alliance points for gaining Hot Pie’s trust.
Hot Pie earns 3 Alliance points for confiding in Brienne.

In King’s Landing Oberyn visits Tyrion in his cell. They discuss Cersei and how badly she wants Tyrion dead, Oberyn surprises him by agreeing. He explains that he and his sister had visited Casterly Rock shortly after Tyrion’s birth. Their entire journey they had heard tales of the monster born to Tywin Lannister, but he and elia were disappointed when he proved to be nothing more than a baby. Cersei however declared him a monster that murdered her mother. He remind Tyrion of the intent of his visit to King’s Landing. He wants justice for his sister murdered by the Mountain at Tywin’s order. He declares that he will serve as Tyrion’s champion.
Tyrion Lannister earns 3 Alliance points for Oberyn agreeing to act as his champion.
Oberyn Martell earns 3 Alliance points for agreeing to champion Tyrion.

In the Eyrie Sansa passes the time by building a snow replica of Winterfell. Robin soon ruins the venture with a tantrum causing Sansa to lose her temper and slap the boy. Littlefinger has seen the exchange and assures her that he needs the discipline. She asks why he really killed Joffrey and he claims it was revenge for Cat’s murder as she was the love of his life. He then remarks that Sansa is more beautiful than she ever was and kisses her. Unseen by them, Lysa watches from a balcony.

Lysa calls Sansa to the moon door. She tells her what happens to those who fall through it. She reveals she saw them and attacks Sansa, dragging her by the hair closer to the moon door. She screams that all those who conspired to keep she and Petyr apart are dead because that’s what happens to those who stand in their way. Littlefinger interrupts and demands Lysa let her go. An anguished Lysa tells him Sansa is just like her mother and will never love him the way she has, would never lie or kill for him as she has. He finally convinces her to release Sansa and holds Lysa close. He tells her how foolish she is for he has only ever loved one woman and she smiles up at him. He then replies “Your sister.” and pushes her through the moon door to her death.
Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish earns 3 Morghulis points for killing Lysa.
Lysa Arryn receives -3 Betrayal points and -5 Death points for her murder at the hands of her beloved Petyr.
Sansa Stark earns 1 Survival point for escaping Lysa’s attack.
