Episode 10: Fire and Blood

Season One has come to an end, and what a season it was! After so many twist and turns Fire And Blood still managed to pull out a few last-minute surprises. Magic is returning to the world, Westeros boasts 4 would-be Kings, and the Stark girls start their struggle for survival. This is only the beginning! Summary

The episode opens where the last one closed at the Baelor’s Sept after Ned Stark’s execution. Arya is pulled away by Yoren who she eventually recognizes as a Brother of the Night’s Watch. He cuts her hair, insists she is a boy now, and tells her they are going north.
Arya Stark earns 3 Alliance points for allying with Yoren.
Yoren earns 3 Alliance points for protecting Arya.

Bran asks Osha to bring him down to the Winterfell crypts. He and Rickon both had dreams of their father there the night before. Osha tries to assure him it means nothing. However, when they emerge from the crypts Maester Luwin is waiting with news of Ned’s death. The news reaches Robb’s camp. He and Catelyn grieve together, but vow not to break their resolve. They will avenge Ned and get back Sansa and Arya.
Bran Stark receives 1 Magic point for his prophetic dream.
Rickon Stark receives 1 Magic point for his prophetic dream.

Joffrey holds court in King’s Landing. Sandor “The Hound” Clegane is seen next to him in a white cloak, meaning he has been appointed to the King’s Guard. After ordering the tongue out of a singer he declares he is done for the day and asks for Sansa to accompany him. He tortures her by forcing her to look at the heads of her father, his household, and even her Septa. Sansa considers pushing Joffrey from the Castle’s ramparts, but is thwarted by The Hound. While the Hound is gentle with her, the message is clear, this is her new life.
Sansa Stark receives -1 Wound point for Joffrey’s torture.
Joffrey Baratheon earns 1 Wound point for torturing Sansa.
Sandor “The Hound” Clegane earns 3 Honors points for being appointed to the King’s Guard.
Septa Mordane receives -5 Death points for her execution.

In the Riverlands, Robb and his men discuss which King they should declare for. Both have Robert’s brothers, Renly and Stannis have declared themselves rightful King and Robert’s son Joffrey sit the Iron Throne. They begin to argue, but Greatjon Umber raises his voice above the others.He reminds them that the Northmen bent their knees to the Dragons, and the dragons are dead. He declares Robb Stark to be the only King he plans to kneel to. Others take up the cry “King in the North!” Theon Greyjoy, a hostage and ward of the Starks, swears his sword to Robb and continues the chant, “King in the North!” An embittered Cat visits Jaime’s cell. She accuses of him of pushing Bran from the tower in Winterfell. He surprises her by confirming that indeed he did, when asked why he replies that he hoped the boy would die, but will not say why.
Robb Stark earns 3 Crowned points for being declared King in the North and 3 Alliance points from Theon Greyjoy whom he calls brother “now and always.”
Theon Greyjoy earns 3 Alliance points for pledging his loyalty to Robb
The Starks are not the only ones to receive bad news. Cersei learns of Jaime’s capture by Robb Stark. We also see she is having an affair with her cousin Lancel Lannister, the former King’s squire. It’s clear that Cersei was behind Robert’s death using Lancel to intoxicate the King to the point of belligerence while hunting dangerous game. While Lancel is excited by the war Cersei’s mood darkens considerably with news of her twins predicament.
Cersei earns 3 Alliance points for her seduction of Lancel and 2 Morghulis points as she was obviously behind Robert’s death
Lancel Lannister earns 3 Alliance points for his loyalty to Cersei and 5 Morghulis points for his role in Robert’s death
Robert Baratheon receives – 3 Betrayal points for the treachery of his Queen and squire.

In the Riverland Tywin is enraged by Jaime’s capture. While his council is quick to offer ideas for how to reach a peace Tyrion bluntly interrupts that there will be no peace now that Ned Stark is dead. Tywin is impressed by his son’s grasp of the situation and his handling of the hill tribes. He tells Tyrion to ride for King’s Landing to act as Hand of the King in his place. Before Tyrion takes his leave he warns him not to bring “his whore” with him to the capital. Tyrion has never been the most obedient son however, and tells Shae she may accompany him.
Tyrion Lannister earns 3 Honors points for the title of Acting Hand and 3 Alliance points for choosing Shae over his father’s warnings.
Shae earns 3 Alliance points for Tyrion’s loyalty to her despite his father’s threats.

Daenerys awakes to find her child dead and Drogo a shadow of a man. She demands an explanation from Mirri Maz Duur who replies that only death can pay for life. She watched her temple burn and had been raped by 3 of Drogo’s riders before Daenerys “saved” her, and now she has had her revenge. Daenerys makes a final attempt to wake Drogo’s spirit, when he is unresponsive she mercifully smothers him with a pillow.
Khal Drogo earns 1 Magic point for being saved from death only to receive -5 Death points when Daenerys smothers him.
Daenerys receives -3 Betrayal points for Mirri Maz Durr’s vengeance and 5 Morghulis points for smothering Drogo.

Jon Snow has learned of his father’s death and flees in the night. He plans to forsake his vows and join his brother, Robb. When Sam fails to stop him he gathers Pyp and Grenn and all three set out to bring him back. They remind him of their vows and eventually Jon concedes and returns to the Wall. The next morning Commander Mormont chides him for what would have been a foolish decision. He tells Jon that the game of thrones is nothing compared to the true threat of the White Walkers. He declares the Night’s Watch will ride in force north of the Wall to discover the truth of what’s happening out there.
Jeor Mormont earns 2 Call the Banners points.

Arya and Yoren gather the other would-be recruits for the Night’s Watch. Two of the boys, Lommy and Hot Pie try picking a fight with “Arry the orphan boy,” but Arya is quick to put them in their place with a little help from an older boy, Gendry. We’ve seen Gendry before, the armorer’s apprentice and bastard son to King Robert has been cast out by his master with no choice to join the Night’s Watch.

Daenerys prepares Drogo’s funeral pyre, she has her Dragon eggs placed around his body. Jorah tries to dissuade her, believing she intends to commit suicide, but she assures him she has no intention of dying. She declares to the few dothraki and slaves that remain that they are free to go, but welcome to join her Khalasar as free people and promises their enemies shall die screaming. She has Mirri Maz Durr tied to the pyre then lights it. As the woman’s screams fill the air Daenerys steps into the flames. The next morning Daenerys rises from the ash, unburnt, and cradling 3 baby dragons. Jorah kneels declaring her “blood of my blood” and the dothraki follow suit.
Daenerys earns 3 Morghulis points for sacrificing Mirri Maz Duur, 1 Magic points for the birth of her dragons, and 3 Alliance points for the allegiance of her Khalasar.
Mirri Maz Duur receives -5 Death points.
Jorah Mormont earns 3 Alliance points for reaffirming his loyalty to Daenerys.
Rakharo earns 3 Alliance points for his allegiance to Daenerys.
Irri earns 3 Alliance points for his allegiance to Daenerys.
Doreah earns 3 Alliance points for his allegiance to Daenerys.
