In episode 9, Baelor, we see some major power shifts. Ned Stark plummets from his top position only to see his son Robb Stark, who has been steadily making his way up the Leaderboard, claims first place. And he’s not alone, Ser Jorah Mormont has also been quietly picking up steam rising to tie Robb for first place.

Varys again visits Ned in the black cells. He tells Ned of Sansa’s pleas to King Joffrey to spare her father’s life and Varys urges him to accept the deal. If not for his own sake, then for his daughter and the realm which will surely bleed should Robb continue his march to war.
In the Riverlands Robb and his camp sit outside The Twins, seat of House Frey. Their control of the river crossing has made them a wealthy house if not a well respected one. Though Lord Walder Frey is her father’s bannerman, Cat makes it clear she does not trust the man. She offers to speak with him herself to assure his allegiance and their safe passage across the river. Walder is blunt with Lady Stark concerning her son’s situation, they need his help not the other way around. He offers his alliance, but not without several strings, not the least of which is Robb’s promise that he will take a Frey girl to wife. Robb is forced to consent knowing that crossing at the Twins is his only chance for victory.

At the Wall, Lord Commander Mormont speaks with Jon Snow. He thanks him for saving his life in the wight’s attack last episode. He gives him what was the ancestral sword of his house before his son Jorah’s dishonor.The blade, Longclaw, is Valyrian steel which is exceptionally rare since the Doom of Valyria some 500 years ago. Jon shows off the sword to his fellow recruits, but his celebratory mood is darkened when Sam reveals Jon’s brother is marching to war. Later Maester Aemon asks to see Jon. He tries to warn him against breaking his vows to help his brother. The maester explains that he does understand Jon’s situation perhaps better than anyone else. He was at The Wall when his house was destroyed and his family killed. He reveals he was once Aemon Targaryen, brother to Aegon the 4th Targaryen, great-uncle to Daenerys.
Jon Snow receives 3 Honors points for being given Longclaw.
Across the Narrow Sea Drogo’s wound has festered. Dany asks for Mirri Maz Duur much to Drogo’s blood rider’s anger. His wound has festered she reveals, Qotho pulls a knife blaming the “witch,” but Daenerys defends the woman again. Jorah urges Dany to flee explaining that the Dothraki only follow the strong and her child will be killed before he can grow to pose a threat to the new Khal. Daenerys refuses and begs Mirri Maz Duur to save Drogo. She says she may be able to, but not without the help of powerful blood magic. She asks for his horse and warns none must enter the tent after she begins.
Mirri Maz Duur earns 1 Magic point.
The Dothraki are outraged that Daenerys would break the taboos against blood magic. Qotho attempts to stop it, but Daenerys stands in his way. He pushes her roughly to the ground but Jorah stands to defend her. The two fight and Jorah kills the dothraki warrior, but the damage has been done, Daenerys has gone into labor. None of the midwives will attend her believing she is cursed. Having no other choice Jorah and Rakharo seek Mirri Maz Duur’s help, bringing Daenerys into the tent.
Daenerys Targaryen receives -1 Wounded point.
Jorah earns 3 Victory points and 3 Morghulis points for his fight with Qotho.

In the Riverlands Tywin plans his attack on Robb Stark. He declares that Tyrion will lead the Hill Tribes in the vanguard, a perilous position. Tyrion attempts to dissuade his father knowing that the undisciplined Hill Tribes may break and cause more harm to their cause than good, but Tywin stays firm. Bronn finds Tyrion a young prostitute, Shae, to share his bed. Tyrion tells the two the sad story of his first marriage and Tywin’s “sharp lesson” revealing the father and son have long had a contentious relationship. The next morning Tyrion awakens to the battle beginning. He rallies the Hill Tribes with a raucous speech but is knocked unconscious when they march to battle.
Tyrion wakes to find they have won the battle much to his surprise. Tywin appears and explains that the Starks had split their force, they were not able to capture Robb Stark because he was with the larger part of his host. And where are they? The whispering wood where Robb and his men have surprised Ser Jaime Lannister’s forces. In addition to winning the battle they have taken Jaime prisoner

Arya roams the streets of King’s Landing begging for food when she hears the Hand of the King is being brought to Baelor’s Sept. Ned is presented to the crowd. He seems to have taken Varys’ words to heart. He confesses his “treason,” and declares Joffrey to be the true King of Westeros.

Before Ned is brought before the crowd he sees Arya at the foot of Baelor’s statue. When he passes NIght’s Watch Brother, Yoren, he tells him to look for Baelor. After giving his confession King Joffrey announces that while his mother and Lady Sansa have argued for mercy, “they have the soft hearts of women!” He demands Ned Stark’s execution then and there. Chaos erupts as Cersei and Varys rush to dissuade him, Sansa faints, and Arya is grabbed by Yoren. Ilyn Payne, the King’s Justice, unsheathes his sword and beheads Ned Stark.
